Priority, Master Ranking™ & Executive Exception
Learn how to read RCA priority and executive signals safely: recognize what the signal tells you, open the affected Opportunity, review the surrounding context and act according to your role — without trying to reconstruct how RCA calculated, ranked or governed the result.
Do not read every RCA signal the same way.
Priority, Master Ranking™ and Executive Exception each provide a different kind of visible context. None should be treated as a substitute for opening the Opportunity and reviewing the current decision, owner, work and blockers.
Priority
A priority signal tells you that an Opportunity deserves attention within the current RCA operating view.
Master Ranking™
Master Ranking™ provides visible portfolio ordering. Treat the placement as a navigation and attention signal, not as a complete explanation of the Opportunity.
Executive Exception
Executive Exception is a distinct executive signal. Its presence should prompt context review, not an automatic assumption about what action must be taken.
Read the signal. Then open the context.

Executive Exception is an independent signal.
An Executive Exception should be read as visible executive context. Its presence does not by itself tell a user to perform a particular operational action.

Priority and executive signals are most useful when they help a user move quickly into the Opportunity that contains the real decision, owner, actions, information and blockers.
The signal is the doorway. The Opportunity is the context.
A user should never try to resolve an Opportunity solely from a portfolio card, badge or ranking signal. The signal tells you where to look; the Opportunity tells you what is happening.
Priority, ranking or executive context catches your attention.

This synthetic case shows an Opportunity with visible portfolio attention and an Executive Exception. The task is to interpret the signals correctly without reverse-engineering RCA or assuming the action that should follow.
An Opportunity is prominent and an Executive Exception is visible.
The user sees an Opportunity receiving strong attention in the portfolio view. An Executive Exception badge is also present. The Opportunity itself contains a current decision, owner and open work.
Notice the signals without explaining them.
The user can recognize that the Opportunity deserves attention and that executive context is present without needing to know how RCA calculated the ranking or produced the exception state.

The Opportunity contains the current operational facts required for responsible interpretation.
Respond according to your role — not according to the signal alone.
Different roles may see the same Opportunity but have different responsibilities. The signal does not erase those ownership boundaries.
