Priority, Master Ranking™ & Executive Exception
Learn how to read RCA priority and executive signals safely: recognize what the signal tells you, open the affected Opportunity, review the surrounding context and act according to your role — without trying to reconstruct how RCA calculated, ranked or governed the result.
Do not read every RCA signal the same way.
Priority, Master Ranking™ and Executive Exception each provide a different kind of visible context. None should be treated as a substitute for opening the Opportunity and reviewing the current decision, owner, work and blockers.
Priority
A priority signal tells you that an Opportunity deserves attention within the current RCA operating view.
Master Ranking™
Master Ranking™ provides visible portfolio ordering. Treat the placement as a navigation and attention signal, not as a complete explanation of the Opportunity.
Executive Exception
Executive Exception is a distinct executive signal. Its presence should prompt context review, not an automatic assumption about what action must be taken.
Read the signal. Then open the context.
Select a signal to see the safe interpretation pattern. The Learning Inspector explains what the signal means from the user's perspective, what should be reviewed and what should never be inferred from the signal alone.
Select a visible RCA signal to practice the correct reading pattern.
Priority is a prompt to inspect — not a command to act blindly.
When a priority signal is visible, open the Opportunity and inspect the current decision, owner, open work, information and blockers before taking action.
What decision is currently visible?
Who owns the current decision or work?
Actions, Information Requests and Blockers provide context.
Take only the responsibility that belongs to your role.
Master Ranking™ tells you where to look — not the whole story.
A visible ranking position helps organize portfolio attention. It should lead you into Opportunity context rather than replace the review of the Opportunity itself.
Use the visible placement as an attention cue.
The Learning Hub does not explain why the system calculated this placement.
Review current state, decision, owners and blockers.
Use the visible context to determine your actual responsibility.
Executive Exception is an independent signal.
An Executive Exception should be read as visible executive context. Its presence does not by itself tell a user to perform a particular operational action.
An exception is visibly associated with the Opportunity.
The exception alone does not define your next operational step.
Open the current decision, owners, work and blockers.
Act only within the responsibility visible for your role.
Use the same four-step habit for every priority signal.
RCA signals are designed to direct attention. The correct response is to use the signal as an entry point into context, not as a replacement for context.
Recognize what is visible
Identify whether you are looking at a priority, ranking or exception signal.
Open the Opportunity
Move from the signal into the affected commercial and operational context.
Read decision & ownership
Review the current decision, owner, work, information and blockers.
Act according to role
Take only the responsibility authorized and visible for your role.
Three signals users should never over-interpret.
The purpose of this module is to prevent users from turning a visible signal into an assumption about methodology or authority.
Priority ≠ automatic instruction
A priority signal says: inspect this Opportunity. It does not mean every user should immediately intervene or override the current owner.
Correct response: open context first.Master Ranking™ ≠ explanation of methodology
The visible portfolio order is useful for attention and navigation. The Learning Hub does not expose the formula, weights, thresholds or reasons the system used to calculate that order.
Correct response: interpret placement, not calculation.Executive Exception ≠ Executive Action
Executive Exception is its own visible executive context. It should not be treated as proof that an executive operational action is automatically required.
Correct response: inspect Opportunity and role authority.Every signal should lead back to the underlying work.
Priority and executive signals are most useful when they help a user move quickly into the Opportunity that contains the real decision, owner, actions, information and blockers.
The signal is the doorway. The Opportunity is the context.
A user should never try to resolve an Opportunity solely from a portfolio card, badge or ranking signal. The signal tells you where to look; the Opportunity tells you what is happening.
Priority, ranking or executive context catches your attention.
Open the record connected to that visible signal.
Review decision, owner, Actions, IR and Blockers.
Act, monitor, clarify or escalate according to responsibility.
Practice reading a strong signal without over-reacting.
This synthetic case shows an Opportunity with visible portfolio attention and an Executive Exception. The task is to interpret the signals correctly without reverse-engineering RCA or assuming the action that should follow.
An Opportunity is prominent and an Executive Exception is visible.
The user sees an Opportunity receiving strong attention in the portfolio view. An Executive Exception badge is also present. The Opportunity itself contains a current decision, owner and open work.
Notice the signals without explaining them.
The user can recognize that the Opportunity deserves attention and that executive context is present without needing to know how RCA calculated the ranking or produced the exception state.
Open the Opportunity before deciding what the signals mean for you.
The Opportunity contains the current operational facts required for responsible interpretation.
Respond according to your role — not according to the signal alone.
Different roles may see the same Opportunity but have different responsibilities. The signal does not erase those ownership boundaries.
You are ready when the signal no longer replaces the context.
This module is complete when you can use Priority, Master Ranking™ and Executive Exception as navigation and interpretation signals without treating them as explanations of RCA's proprietary methodology.

Continue with the End-to-End RCA Training Scenario.
The next major module will connect the pages already built into one synthetic RCA journey, allowing users to practice Customer Need → Revenue, role handoffs and signal interpretation without exposing proprietary calculation logic.
Continue to Training Scenario →Use the signal to find the context — not to reconstruct the system.
Priority, Master Ranking™ and Executive Exception are most useful when they help users focus attention, open the right Opportunity and act responsibly within their role.
